What the label actually tells you

What to look for in a hand wash

The most important quality in a daily hand wash is that it cleans effectively without leaving hands feeling dry or tight afterwards. This comes down to the conditioning ingredients in the formula.

Look for hand washes that include:

• Cocamidopropyl Betaine — a mild, conditioning surfactant derived from coconut oil that cleans gently
• Plant oils such as Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (olive oil) — which help maintain the skin's moisture after rinsing
• Citric Acid — which balances the formula's pH to match your skin

Avoid hand washes that list only harsh surfactants with no conditioning agents, or that rely heavily on synthetic fragrance with no skin-benefit ingredients to balance it.
